Head Coverings: As a Christian Woman, Am I Supposed to Wear One?

are two articles that I want the Legacy of Biblical Womanhood group to read. I had a couple of women ask about the passages on head coverings in light of our meeting that addressed the question "Why was I created as a Woman"

This particular question covered some passages in I Corinthians 11 that caused a desire to learn about head coverings and if they apply to us today. Please understand that this is the only Scripture in the entire Bible that says anything about head coverings. This is a challenging and controversial passage that I pray does not cause division. Please do not look down at your sister in Christ if she feels strongly that she must wear one and do not act holier-than-thou if you do not.

I was planning on addressing this at our upcoming meeting, but have found there to be no time. We will actually only have time to cover the question "How Should a Woman of God Conduct Herself" even though we initially had it on the schedule to also include "What is God's Plan for Me as a Wife?"

I sincerely encourage you all to carefully read the above articles and study this on your own; prayerfully and with a desire to honor the Lord, testing everything as a Berean, and holding fast to what is good so that God alone is glorified.

I have been wearing a prayer covering for devotions and prayer for three years now. I attend a very large non-denominational Bible church -- it is conservative theologically-speaking, but very liberal in it's interpretation or acceptance of the "come as you are" approach to worship (anything goes).

I was convicted about wearing a covering after I read about it on a blog and website. I did a lot of personal study, researched using my Bible study books, etc., and then determined for myself that the literal interpretation of 1 Cor. 11 works for me (I read all the pros/cons out there).

The thing I wanted to mention is that in the course of three years, this covering issue is exploding on the Internet. Women from all conservative churches are saying the same thing: I felt called or led to cover my head. I have read blogs written by feminists (former), Anglicans, Roman Catholics, fundamentalist Christians, Anabaptists (who have traditionally worn coverings), conservative Jews, etc. The Holy Spirit of God is working in the hearts of women throughout the church and calling them to return to modest living.

What does this mean? I don't know, but it is clearly evident that something is happening, one woman at a time. Perhaps it is a cultural backlash and women are just fed up with the lack of reverence in dress shown for their Lord at church? Perhaps it is a headship issue and women are praying for their husbands to assume the spiritual leader role in the family? Perhaps it really is a spiritual revolution or reformation, whereby the Holy Spirit of God is begining His preparatory work -- preparing the church for Jesus' Glorious return?

All I know is that I used to feel odd or like I was the only one who felt this way. Not so anymore. I realize that there are myriads of sisters, many new to covering, who are doing so because they feel God is leading them to do it.

It is kind of neat to be apart of a new reformation.
